BC Wins Western Canadian Championships
BC Highlights from the Haywood NorAm/Western Canadian Championships Callaghan Valley, BC January 20-22, 2017 BC won the Western Canadian aggregate title with 5962 points. Alberta was second with 2872, and Manitoba third with 577 points. There were over 600 racers competing on the weekend. There were 147 teams entered in the relays. Tribute to Hilde Kirrmaier
Long time Kimberley resident and Kimberley Nordic member Hilde Kirrmaier passed away Saturday, Janurary 14th. A celebration of Hilde's life was held at the Nordic Centre Friday, Janurary 20th, a perfect venue for the last hurrah for a faithful member. Hilde Kirrmaier (nee Walter) was born in Berlin, Germany, the third of five children. Shortly after WWII erupted, the family fled the battlefront and moved from home to home. Kootenay Cup Great Success this Past Weekend.
This past weekend saw Kimberley Nordic Club host the annual Kootenay Cup Race Weekend, one of the clubs biggest events. The Teck Kootenay Cup cross-country ski race saw a record number of racers this year. Participants ranged in age from three to eighty three. The races hosted by the Kimberley Nordic Club, Jan 14 and 15 had close to 200 registered racers each of the two days. Skate skiing took place Saturday with the Classic racing on Sunday. Kimberley Nordic's biggest event of the year is this weekend, January 13-15th, the Kootenay Cup. Group Lessons Coming Up.
Group Lesson and Ski Improvement Programs are coming up soon. These classes are for people looking to improve their technique to become more comfortable and more efficient cross country skiing. Day lessons are at 10:30-12:00 at the Nordic Club. Classic lessons are on Mondays and Skate lessons are on Wednesdays starting January 9th and January 11th.
