TRACK ATTACK PROGRAM
This skills development program targets young skiers ages 9 to 13. Kids learn techniques of cross-country skiing through games and structured coaching. Sessions are a mix of tempo skiing, skill development and games. Most Track Attack kids come through our 4 level Jack Rabbits program before entering this program. However we do welcome new skiers who are motivated to learn. Skiers are introduced to some racing and training concepts, however racing is not mandatory. An emphasis of the program is to encourage children to enjoy skiing as a lifelong activity.
An overview of this national program is on the Cross Country Canada Website here >>>
Our program starts with dryland sessions consisting of various activities including hiking, roller-skiing, team games, as well as agility and core strength exercises. Once trail grooming begins in November at KNC, the Track Attack group meets for sessions on snow. Coaches will attend races whenever possible, and parents are welcome to take racers to competitions on their own, however consultation with coaches is encouraged.
It is our goal to help develop a love of skiing. We want to grow a community of skiers who have fun, challenge themselves, and work together as a team.
We are making a change in the program structure this season to encourage more team building activities, including:
-
early season weekly dryland activities;
-
our Kimberley dryland camp included in the fees;
-
an exciting Panorama on snow camp included in the fees;
-
two on-snow sessions each week when we will ski as a group, but also join up with the Nordic Racers and upper Jackrabbits;
-
Kootenay Cup races at home and away.
These events are fun for our skiers, but also for the entire family. We hope that you will be able to join us for many of these activities!
Dryland
We will be meeting once a week on Tuesdays starting September 14th to play team building games, try out roller skiing, and do some local hikes. The emphasis of this part of the season is on being active and getting to know each other.
On Snow
We will ski twice a week this season. Sessions will be held at 4:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from the end of November thru March. We are making this change to increase opportunities to ski with the Nordic Racers and upper level Jackrabbits.
