Add Skate Skiing to Your List of New Year's Resolutions

December 23, 2019

This season, KNC is glad to offer skate skiing rentals as a new option at the club. The club purchased a small selection of gear that will enable you to add this to your list of New Year's resolutions. Rentals fees are set at $35 for three hours (including your trail pass) making this branch of cross country skiing accessible to anyone who wants to try.

Skate Skiing Background

Skate skiing has been around for about 30 years, and it offers a different workout than classic skiing. There are actually five skate techniques that help skiers navigate hills, flats and downhills. Read More

If you want to learn to ski, overcome your fear of hills, improve your skills or are looking to take your technique to the next level our enthusiastic Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) certified instructors are keen to help you. Instruction can make skiing easier and more fun, enabling you to ski further and faster. We offer lessons in classic and skate skiing techniques from early December until mid- March. We invite cross country skiers 19 years and older to join our enthusiastic group to learn to ski or improve technique and fitness in a social and friendly environment.

There are major changes to the format this year with three 4‑week sessions being offered and 4 levels from Learn-to-Ski to Masters. Each class will be taught by one instructor with class sizes limited to 8 participants. There will be opportunities to participate in waxing clinics, video analysis, loppets, and après ski socials throughout the season.
