Masters Skiers Program 2011/12

Cross-country skiing is great! And it gets better as you get better!

The inaugural meeting of the 2011/12 Masters Program was held November 29th and again terrific response. This program has to be the best XC instruction deal north of 49. It really gets you up and moving. Its good for starters and advanced with fun thrown in as a bonus. One simply has to be willing to expend a little effort and show up at all the sessions. It is expected there will be over 25 instructed sessions this season and that calculates to about $3.00/session. See you there.

Kimberley Master’s Ski Group

We had our first meeting of the year on Nov. 29^th, 2011.

The following items were discussed and decided upon:

We will continue to use 4 instructors that we used last year: Bruce Kirkby, Ken Ristimaki, Delia Christianson and Frank Ackermann.

We will be starting lessons next Tuesday, Dec. 6^th, 2011. Ski sessions will run every Tuesday and Thursday evening starting at 18:30, and finishing at roughly 20:00. There will also be group skiing every Sunday morning at 10:00. Instructional sessions this year will be limited to 2/week. We will plan to run Tuesday sessions as classic skiing, and Thursday sessions as skate skiing. Sunday sessions will be your own preference. Instructional time will be almost exclusively on weekdays and not on Sundays unless otherwise specified in the calendar of activities which we will keep up to date on the KNC website. There was only minimal interest in running a daytime/weekday session at this time. If there is more interest throughout the year, then this will be discussed again, and perhaps tried on a trial basis.

Special sessions will include 2 video analysis sessions that will occur on Sundays, and 2 wax clinic sessions. These will be posted on the calendar of activities as well.

Fees were discussed again, and it was decided that the rate of $75 for the year was very reasonable and that there was no need to raise it at this time. Lowering the fee was also discussed, but not approved. It was noted that a similar program in Vernon costs members $270 for a total of 20 sessions.

Registration forms for joining the Master’s Program will be drafted for the first time this year, and will be available on the Kimberley Nordic Club website. They can be filled out and dropped off with the registration fee.  It was decided that this year’s fees will include our new Kimberley XC Skiers (KIXS) toque.

The new clothing was discussed as well. Orders will need to be made by Nov. 30^th.
