Outstanding overall results for KNR members at the national championships held in Whitehorse March 14^th – 21^st:

• Colin Ferrie, 5^th overall juvenile boys, 5th/40 in 1993 year of birth (YOB) category
• Stefan Sander-Green, 6th overall juvenile boys, 6th/40 in 1993 YOB category
• Steve Coueffin, 6^th/15 in juvenile boys 1995 YOB category
• Nicole Perrin, 25^th overall juvenile girls, 15^th/27 in 1994 YOB category
• Johanna Ferrie, 13^th/17 in junior women 1991 YOB category

Final day at national championships, long distance classic technique race

Kimberley Nordic Racers ended the national championships on Sunday, March 21^st on a high note.   Here are the results:

• Colin Ferrie, 1^st juvenile boys 10 km. (87 racers) 25 min. 58.9 sec.
• Stefan Sander-Green, 6^th juvenile boys 10 km., 27 min. 22.5 sec.
• Nicole Perrin, 34^th juvenile girls 7.5 km. (52 racers), 26 min. 50.7 sec.
• Steven Coueffin, 46^th juvenile boys 10 km. (4^th/11 1^st year juvenile boys), 30 min. 38.3 sec.
• Johanna Ferrie, 68^th junior females 15 km. (79 racers), 68 min. 16.7 sec.

Medium distance and sprint events at national championships

Results from the medium distance, interval start free technique (skate) event on Wed. March 17^th:

• Stefan Sander-Green – 7^th juvenile boys (1^st B final) 600 m.
• Colin Ferrie – 16^th juvenile boys (quarter finals)  600 m.
• Nicole Perrin – 22^nd juvenile girls (quarter finals)  600 m.
• Steve Coueffin – 61^st juvenile boys in qualifying round  600 m.
• Johanna Ferrie – 71^st junior female in qualifying round   1.2 km.

Two silver medals for Steven Coueffin at BC Winter Games

Kimberley Nordic Racers team member Steve Coueffin achieved outstanding results for the Kootenay Zone at the BC Winter Games held March 4^th- 7^th in Terrace.   Apparently, little snow was in sight as skiers drove to the race trails, but apparently lots of shoveling had been done to ensure a 2.5 km. race trail was available.   Steve skied to a second place silver medal result in the Juvenile Boys 5 km. classic technique event, 14.7 sec. behind first place finisher Sam Morris of West Vancouver, and a similar time  ahead of bronze medalist Zayne Heyes from Vancouver. 

The second event was a 400 m. free technique (skate) sprint event, with a qualifying round, quarter finals, semi finals and 4 person head-to-head finals.  Steve was fifth fastest in the qualifying round, but demonstrated his sprinting and tactical skills by skiing to a silver medal finish in the hotly-contested final. 

Steve also skied the anchor leg for a 4 person, mixed gender and mixed technique relay team on the last day of the Winter Games, bringing the Kootenay zone team a 7^th place finish in the event.

Outstanding KNC results at first two races at Cross Country National Championships

The Kimberley Nordic Club is being very well-represented at the cross-country skiing national championships being held in Whitehorse from March 14^th to 21^st.   Stefan Sander-Green, Colin Ferrie, Nicole Perrin and Steven Coueffin were selected to represent BC at the national championships; Johanna Ferrie is skiing for her club team at the event.   Here are the results after two races:

Classic technique team sprint event, Sunday, March 14^th

In the ‘challenge boys’ category, two person teams alternated skiing the 800 m. course three times each for the semi-final, and then repeated it all again for the final.   Stefan Sander-Green and Colin Ferrie skied to a sixth place overall out of 31 teams, an excellent result considering they were competing against teams with older teenagers. 

Johanna Ferrie and Nicole Perrin had to compete in the ‘Open Women’ category against the most of the top female cross-country ski racers in Canada, including Olympian Chandra Crawford.  Johanna and Nicole skied to a 16^th place finish in this event.

Classic technique interval start short distance race, Tuesday, March 16^th

Juvenile boys 5 km. (90 racers)

• Colin Ferrie 2^nd place 14 min. 13.5 sec, 10.3 sec. out of first
• Stefan Sander-Green 4^th place 14 min. 30.2 sec.
• Steven Coueffin 63^rd, 5^th out of 13 first year juvenile boys, 16 min. 25.2 sec.

Juvenile girls 5 km. (53 racers)

• Nicole Perrin 31^st place 17 min. 46.8 sec. Happy birthday Nicole!

 Junior female 5 km. (87 racers)

• Johanna Ferrie 82^nd place 21 min. 03.2 sec.
