Kimberley Nordic Club

Recreational Cross Country Skiing was conducted for several decades on the mining exploration trails at the base of North Star Mountain before the initial nordic trail (Centennial) was constructed. Over the years the trail system was expanded such that now the Kimberley Nordic network is a first class facility consisting of a variety of snowcat groomed trails complete with double track, single track and a centre skating lane. There are also narrow single track trails to accommodate the more adventuresome bushwhacker. These trails, set and not, are of varying degrees of difficulty and length to accomodate all levels of nordic skiers. The modern facility includes a comfortable 1,200 sq ft lodge with washrooms, a racer's warming/waxing hut, 30 km of groomed dbl track trails, a 3.3 kilometer lit loop for night skiing, a 1.0 km lit sprint loop and 5.0 km of single track trails. The facility also has some trails specifically constructed to be Paralympic skiing friendly.

Snowcat Grooming during January 2012 is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday mornings and Friday nights plus after significant snowfalls.

Night skiing is every night during the season from dusk until 10:00 PM.

Summer/Fall, 2012 - Outdoor enthusiasts are welcome in the nordic center and it's free. However, should you wish to make a donation, it will be gratefully accepted.

The Nordic Centre also provides easy access for touring and snowshoeing in the adjacent Kimberley Nature Park or onto well used trails in the surrounding crown forest lands. Click on popular backcountry trails for more detailed information. If you are a pure backcountry aficionado click on Bates Photo to view what the area has to offer.

Jackrabbit Program

This program, also now called the Skills Development Program, is geared to children aged 4-12 years old. The 2011-2012 season has ended, but was very successful. We had plenty of skis and poles to rent to the kids, which was a bonus for parents that don't want to buy new equipment every year, or they want to try it out with their kids before committing to a full purchase. We hope that this will encourage more kids to join next year. Please see our link for further details and how to register. For a taste of the fun the kids have in this program, check out these YouTube links about our end-of-season events from this last year, as well as the year before.
